Whats tats about.

Tattoos have been dated in existence for over 5,000 years. They were originally carried out in native tribes to tell stories of their life, what tribe they are from and who their parents are.
Not too long ago they were once used to symbolise a person being within a certain 'out cast' group such as bikers, prisoners and sailors. However, now they seem to have reverted back to their originality in why people have them, as people used them to tell stories of their life or memorials. The worst reason people have tattoos is to keep up with fashion.
Is it right that people physically mutilated their just simply to look good?
Tattoos, as like any invasive change to the body also carry the risks of going seriously wrong, such as getting an infection.
Do you think it is worth putting your body through pain, just to look good? And is the reason for people having them wrong as in the past they meant something and now their more like a fashion accessory?
