R.E Andrew Kirby's blog on prositiution.

A woman called Jean Johnson from the woman's institute is trying to legalise prostitution! My first reaction as I’m sure like yours it to be horrified and to disagree. After my blog post on prostitution, I found out that most people get into this through bad circumstances such as drug addiction so surely it is wrong to make this exploitation legal?
Well, after the initial shock I took the time to understand Jean Johnson's reasoning for wanting to legalise it. Her reasoning for this is to help promote safety into the industry as with legislation usually there are minimal standards and so protecting those who work within it. For example extra measures would be taken in ensuring all prostitutes are clean from STI's as like it is in Amsterdam where it is legal.
Is Jean's idea just fuelling exploitation of a vulnerable person, or would legalising it make it safer as it will happen anyway? Let me know.
